OptPump software

EPANET-based simulation and optimisation that turns a water network model and a time-of-use tariff into a lower-cost pump schedule — with feasibility verified, not assumed.

What it does

  • Builds on the EPANET hydraulic engine (via WNTR) to run an extended-period simulation of the network.
  • Computes pump energy consumption and cost against a supplied time-of-use electricity tariff, using each pump's actual efficiency curve rather than a flat conversion factor.
  • Searches for an optimised pump schedule that shifts operation toward lower-price hours.
  • Verifies hydraulic feasibility on every candidate schedule — tank level limits, daily storage balance, and minimum service pressure — rather than assuming a schedule that saves energy on paper is actually deliverable.

What you receive

An optimised pump schedule and a report quantifying the estimated annual € saving, alongside the same feasibility checks (storage, minimum pressure) applied to your current operation for comparison.

Honest limitations & roadmap

Current scope: single or multiple fixed/VFD pumps against a demand pattern derived from the supplied network model; one representative day, extended-period simulation.

Not yet included: multi-day/seasonal demand variation, transient (water-hammer) analysis, and automatic multi-station network coordination — these are being worked on, see Research & Development.

Results are a starting point for engineering review, not an unattended operational decision.
